So I’ve been chatting with you lately on how to feel more productive and procrastinate less.  Today’s strategy might seem counter productive but I think it’s an important one.  If you are feeling overwhelmed, stressed and like you just can’t possibly imagine doing anything, then you might be on the verge of burn-out.  It’s important to learn your personal signals for when this starts to happen.   I get REALLY agitated at everything.  I snap at my kids and it seems everywhere I look there is a mess or something someone didn’t do.  I just get so worked up over all the little things, that I’m not a very good version of me.  So when that happens, instead of trying to do more, I actually do less.  ] Sometimes I need to just not do the dishes for a few days or vacuum the minute the floor gets grimy.  I have to remind myself that these jobs will ALWAYS be there.  I don’t have to do everything the second it needs it.

So take some time for yourself and in that time don’t do anything you don’t want to .  This can be for an afternoon, a day, and sometimes a whole weekend.  It’s ok to take some time off from your regular chores, routines and your lists.  It’s important to remind yourself of the other things you can do with your time.  If you have a hobby you love then take the time out to do it!! Maybe this will encourage you to take more time for yourself on a regular basis, to prevent burnout for longer.

This might also help your family members see how much you really do to keep everything all together.  If you have a hard time getting your family to help then maybe this is a good time to talk to them and discuss a fair way to distribute house hold chores.  We will talk more about this in my next post.

Some of my favorite ways to unwind is

  • Watching a show

  • Chatting with a friend

  • Spending time outside and being active

  • Gardening

  • Doing something crafty

  • Journaling

  • Praying

  • Napping

Take some time right now to write a list of things you can do to unwind.  I like reminding myself of all the things I enjoy doing.  That way when you make the time you have a list of self care activities ready to go.

What are some of your favorite ways to unwind?  I think my ultimate favorite is napping!
